I have NO idea where the name of these cookies come from but they are something my father taught me to make and I imagine something his mother used to make. She was from Sicily so who knows?? Mom said she thought there were Scandinavian or something from that region.
Keefols
GRIND: 12 ounces walnuts MIX IN: 1/2 cup sugar and 1 tsp pure vanilla ADD TO THAT: enough milk to moisten into a paste
~DOUGH~ 3 cups all purpose flour 1 cup Crisco shortening 1/2 tsp salt
Mix well and then stir in: 2/3 cup milk, 2 TBS sugar, 1/2 cake yeast.
Roll out on floured surface and cut into small squares (2-3"). Put a dollop of nut mixture in one corner and roll up to the other corner - similar to a crescent. Let sit for 15 minutes before baking about 20 minutes in a 350* oven. Cool slightly and roll in powdered sugar. You may want to roll a second time if you prefer a really white cookie.
